About
Leanne Rowett is a contemporary abstract painter, based in the Limestone Coast, South Australia. Informed by the innate affiliation of nature, her art practice explores themes of interconnectedness, perception and balance. Working primarily in oil painting, Leanne engages in observational and automatic drawing techniques to interpret meditative imagery and sensorial responses to ephemeral elements of light, atmosphere and forms in nature. Through the interplay of biomorphic forms and geometric abstraction, she examines underlying structures of existence, derived from mathematical archetype principles of unifying dualities.
Formally, Leanne’s approach involves juxtaposing hard-edge abstraction and soft-edge gradient techniques to produce moments of stillness and movement, light and dark, flatness and depth to achieve oppositional symmetry. Her painting process requires a heightened state of presence, by delicately applying thin layers of oil paint to achieve atmospheric qualities and luminous light effects. Her mysterious compositions seek to evoke curiosity and a contemplative response in the viewer.
